Fashion Model Pilot “Global Girl“ Nadia Marcinko in Final Frontier 3G Spacesuit
Pratt DAHRC and Final Frontier Design have joined forces to collaborate in the exploration into designing space suits. Final Frontier Design is a space suit design and manufacturing partnership between Ted Southern and Nikolay Moiseev based in Brooklyn, NY. FFD draws on nearly 30 collective years of experience in making space suits, with experience working for NASA, ESA, and Roscosmos, as well as private industry. FFD is currently selling their “3G” IVA space suit for suborbital and orbital commercial space flight. In addition, FFD has developed a supporting range of space suit peripherals, including anti-G pants, Communications/Sensor Caps, Outer Garments and TMGs, mechanical counter pressure concepts, and radiation protective coatings for deep space travel.

With Ted Southern’s previous life of costume design experience having built nearly a hundred Victoria’s Secret Angel wings over ten years, FFD will be able to collaborate with Pratt DAHRC in deep manner on the full spectrum for the Digital Fashion Research.

To start off this collaboration, select Pratt DAHRC researchers have been scheduled to meet regularly during the Spring semester of 2014 will be devoted to exploring the design of the spacesuit. Digital 3D scanning of real people, 3D textile garment draping, cloth & fabric structure & pressure simulations, smart material design, motion capture & analysis, flexible electronic circuit hardware & screen displays, and interactive interfaces will be utilized in exploring the design of the spacesuit.
